Music and Music Double DECsCreativity and mastery
Who is the program for?
Our program is designed for performers with musical experience who want to take their playing to the next level while broadening their understanding of music history, theory and technology. The double DEC programs allow you to continue to develop your music skills while keeping doors open to a multitude of career possibilities.
Where does it lead?
Our Music program is the natural foundation for a Bachelor of Music degree at university and can prepare you for studies and a career in performance, composition, conducting, education, music therapy, musicology and music technology. You can also choose to follow non-Music university programs, such as Education, Journalism, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
Music and Music Double DECs
You won’t find a Music program like ours anywhere else.
We have experienced teachers, a small group of excellent students and a decades-long connection to the McGill University Schulich School of Music, one of the top music faculties.
Nowhere else will you have caring faculty, talented classmates and all the plusses of a big university program inside a nurturing college environment.
Our singular program prepares you for university in advanced music studies and other arts-based programs.
Every one of our 2019 graduates was admitted to their first-choice university program.
Our partnership with McGill is unique in the provincial college system. You receive private instruction from McGill faculty and can audition for McGill’s renowned ensembles. You have use of our 600-seat Art Deco Auditorium, which has excellent acoustics, two 9-foot grand pianos and a recording control booth. Our practice rooms are equipped with several grand and upright pianos, and our classrooms with 7-foot Steinway and Yamaha grands. You also have access to our integrated recording studio/music technology classroom, a concert-recording booth and a portable recording rig.
You can perform throughout the year in various recitals and at the College’s annual arts festival, in the Auditorium. Our Jazz students give their final recitals at Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, a well-known downtown jazz club. Our Music students often win provincial music competitions. We also have our own competition open to all Music students, the Prix d’expression musicale. Winners have gone on to stellar achievements in the music world.
Our program culminates in a public juried performance either at the College or Upstairs where you can perform for family, friends, colleagues and the wider community.
Our Music Double DEC programs allow you to complete two DECs in 3 years: one in Music and one in either Science, Social Science, or Arts, Literature and Communication. The Double DECs offer even wider possibilities for university and after.
