Health Science students Jenny Zhang and Caline Huang dominated the court at the 2023 provincial collegiate badminton championships in Sept-Îles over the weekend, taking home gold and silver in the individual matches final.

Jenny and Caline were part of a Demons squad that performed at their best against top opponents in Quebec.  The Demons jumped out to a fast start in the first round of the team championship matches, defeating the Faucons du Cégep de Lévis team in convincing fashion. They would go on to play the number one ranked Dynamiques du Cégep de Sainte-Foy, bowing out in a hard-fought match to the eventual provincial champions. The team finished the year second in their conference and fourth overall in Quebec.

Capping off a Successful Season

Members of the badminton team earned their trip to the provincial finals with outstanding performances throughout the season.

The Demons made the finals and won a silver medal in team matches at the conference championship at Cégep Lionel-Groulx earlier this month, where they also had impressive showings on the individual side. Jenny Zhang, Selina Chen and Caline Huang swept the Women’s singles category, while Xianjia Li finished in second place in Men’s singles matches and Leo Guo and Yang Zhou finished third in the Men’s doubles.

Congratulations to the Demons badminton team and coaches Tyler Patt and Rhiwoo Kim ‘21 for all their hard work!
